Improving passenger security

We work with airport operators to select and train the right personnel for security roles.

We have extensive expertise in improving the vigilance and performance of security personnel. We offer unique training programmes for airport security staff and have developed techniques for increasing vigilance, for example, by superimposing images of weapons on to the x-ray images of passengers' bags.

We have also developed technological innovations that improve the ability of screeners to identify threats including a 3D training tool for enhancing image interpretation skills and new algorithms for processing X-ray images.

The effectiveness of scanning equipment depends on the interpretation of the results. QinetiQ has developed a unique Data Management and Interpretation Software Tool for Threat Image Projection Systems (TIP-DMIST).

The system quickly converts TIP data into an easily interpretable form, providing information to airport Security Managers about system-wide performance as well as data on the performance of individual screeners.
