System Integration using Open GIS Standards

An Open Standards approach to system design greatly reduces the risk in technology procurement, avoiding proprietary tie-in and offering a flexible, future-proof solution.

At QinetiQ we are committed to practical, industry-wide open standards and interoperability underpinned by being active members of the Open GIS Consortium (OGC) Technical Committee. Our personnel also sit on the Boards of both the OGC in Europe and the USA.

We develop mapping applications, ranging from stand-alone analysis tools to web-based mapping services. These applications involve fusing different, distributed data sets and strongly benefit from an open standards based approach. In many cases we will integrate the application with other location-based technologies such as GPS-enabled mobile or in-car data devices.

Our experts in this field have developed a range of prototype software platforms for use as the basis of rapid application development. These include:

- telematics platform for routing applications
- a tracking solution using GPS
- mobile map retrieval systems
- GPS-enabled data capture system for police applications.

We have also developed Decision Support and Contingency Planning solutions in this particular area of technology.
