Apprenticeships are currently offered at 3 QinetiQ sites:
- The Engineering Training Centre at Boscombe Down in Wiltshire,
- QinetiQ MoD Shoeburyness in Essex,
- QinetiQ MoD Hebrides on the Isle of Benbecula, Western Isles,
And with the QinetiQ Rolls Royce Calibration Engineers in Glasgow.
At the Engineering Training Centre at Boscombe Down, Modern Apprenticeships in three separate trade areas within the Aviation field are available:
Avionic: encompassing radio communications, RADAR, electrical and electronic systems, navigational systems and aircraft instrumentation.
Mechanical: covering fixed and rotary wing aircraft, aircraft systems such as hydraulics, cabin pressurisation and aircraft flying controls as well as piston and gas turbine engines.
Armament: dealing with assisted escape systems (ejection seats), and weapons as well as weapon delivery systems and much more.
The apprenticeships are heavily biased toward practical activity and this is carried out both on the aircraft at Boscombe Down and at the Engineering Training Centre. Team Building is an important part of the Modern Apprenticeship and all the apprentices spend a week on adventure training.
On successful completion of your training you will receive QinetiQ Deeds of Apprenticeship in your chosen trade, and NVQ level 3 in Aeronautical Engineering Maintenance and a City and Guilds Level 3 in Aerospace Engineering.
